Ideally, your cemetery should be close to the geographic center of where your extended family lives.  Once we are gone, it is not about ‘where we live’ that matters, but ‘where our family lives’ that will be visiting us.  Choosing a burial location is more about your family that cares for you, than about you.  Many of our families have burial rights “down in the country” where they grew up, but abandoned them “because their family all lives here now”.  The industry rule of thumb is to try to choose a cemetery within a 45 minute driving distance, so it is convenient for everyone to come visit and remember.  Convenience is just one of the important criteria in selecting the ideal cemetery for your family, other criteria includes quality, value, service, provisions for long term care and reputation.  Many of our families have burial rights “in another Louisville cemetery” bought long ago, but abandoned them “because they don’t like it there anymore”, failing now to satisfy the other criteria for where to be.
